Stamford, CT - January 24, 2002 - Official Payments
Corporation (Nasdaq: OPAY) {www.officialpayments.com} today announced an
agreement to provide a new service for citizens of the City of Walled Lake,
Michigan. The service will enable county citizens to make personal
property/real estate tax payments and utility bills by credit card, over the
Internet and via telephone.
Commencing in February, the City of Walled Lake residents will be able to pay taxes by visiting www.officialpayments.com or by calling 1-800-2PAY-TAX. American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard and Visa are the cards accepted by the program.
"We wanted to give taxpayers a new option for satisfying their tax obligations. This type of service will give citizens the flexibility to pay taxes by credit card, on-line or via the telephone. Having this option to use your credit card will be an attractive convenience for many taxpayers," stated Treasurer Joyce M. Golden.
Official Payments charges taxpayers a convenience fee for processing these credit card transactions. The fee schedule can be found on the Internet at www.officialpayments.com. For example, a taxpayer who owed the City of Walled Lake $2,400 in real estate taxes and charged their taxes would find a total of $2,456 on their credit card statement; $2,400 for the tax bill and $56 for the convenience fee. Taxpayers using credit cards with bonus rewards programs can, depending on their card's program, earn rewards, points and cash-back or airline frequent flyer miles for paying their taxes.
